Football Premier League: Naismith Honoured by Everton Move

 

Scotland international, Steven Naismith, says it is a "great honour" to join Everton, after completing his move from troubled side, Rangers.

The 25-year-old rejected the transfer of his contract from Rangers to the new company formed by Charles Green. He makes the move to the Premier League on a free transfer.

West Ham United, Stoke City, and Wigan Athletic were all thought to be in the hunt for Naismith, but he ultimately chose to link up with former Rangers team-mates, Nikica Jelavic and David Weir, at Everton, managed by compatriot, David Moyes.

The transfer, while on a free, represents something of a gamble, given that the striker has not played since October with damaged cruciate knee ligaments.

As a result, Naismith underwent extensive medical examinations at Everton’s training ground, before penning a four-year deal to become the club's first summer signing.

"'It is a great honour to be joining a club of Everton's wonderful history, and to have the chance to play with such a talented group of players in the world's best league – the Barclays Premier League - in front of such a passionate group of fans," Naismith told the club's official website.

Moyes was delighted with his first business of the close season, and is looking forward to working with the international forward.

"He will be an excellent addition to the players we already have, and we look forward to him being fit and ready to play at the start of the season," said the Everton boss.

"He is an established international who can play in a number of positions. He has a flexibility we always like in our players, and which will hopefully prove to be very useful for us."
