Will the Media Darling now end up its savage victim?

Even the most ardent of Spurs fans wouldn't be able to deny that, at times in his career, Harry Redknapp has had far too close a relationship with certain members of the English press, which has sometimes led to accusations that he is able to get away with things other managers would be slated for.

If you don't agree, just think back to the numerous examples of Redknapp mistreating certain members of the press who dare to ask questions that he dislikes (a quick search on YouTube may prove useful!). However, against all the sports betting odds, might the tide now be turning on the media's darling as he seeks to defend himself against charges of tax evasion?

With the word "bung" being a very, very powerful word in football for managers and players, the word also carries with it a negative message that fans and the FA will not take lightly. It is, furthermore, a term that has seen far better managers than Harry Redknapp (such as George Graham) brought to their knees by association.

Having seen Redknapp fail to deal well with probing questions previously in his career, his aggressive side is likely to become public knowledge more and more if his trial begins to take on the sort of ominous tone that would result if he looked likely to end up convicted of tax evasion. If this were to happen, then not only would the press surely disown him, but his chances of being England manager would surely disappear, despite the Englishman still the clear favourite in the bet on sports odds to take over from Capello.

Ultimately, though, Rednapp has the chance now to clear his name and make sure that his opponents are never presented with another stick to beat him with, so for the immediate future at least, his buddies at The Sun and Sky Sports News will no doubt stick by him and attack all those who dare slander their main man.
